Good code and an ideal couple

I was with a good friend of mine at Matteo cafe Bangalore where we made this analogy between an ideal couple and good object oriented code.

Loose coupling and high cohesion is a basic funda of Object Oriented Programming. ( Coupling is the degree to which each module relies on the other modules of the software. Cohesion is how strongly focused the responsibilites of the module are.). You want highly cohesive and loosely coupled modules. Otherwise it becomes very tough to maintain them or re-use them.

Similarly i feel that individuals in a relationship should be highly focused(cohesive) with their responsibilities and loosely coupled on carry them out.Dependancy on the other to carry out their own endeavours results in

  1. The other person eventually becomes tired catering to the dependant.
  2. makes you spend more than needed time with each other.

Self driven individuals spend a considerable amount of time on their interests/passion and that time they spend away develops yearning for the other. Otherwise you feel you have had too much of the other person and you want some time alone.

Offlate i am noticing my friends wanting to go out with driven independant individuals and this blog post is a result of this change and me reading some design patterns.

Overall loosely coupled couples might work out better than highly coupled ones.

Someday !

Someday , I want to learn

For my web skills

And for curiosity sake

When will that someday come !

Collaborative Mind Mapping

5 semesters over, 3 to go. I wanted to build a nice app that I would fetch me some money before I get out of college. So I brainstormed with a lot of my connections, did some market research, finally la

Summer 2009

College closed on the 12th of may and i reached bangalore a couple of days later, for doing a project there ..

PHASE 1:

The first day of work , i got introduced to my task,to create an online ticketing portal (somewhat similar to yatra.com) in about 45 days .I was given a designer to help me out with the task . Seriously i had no clue of how i am gonna do this . I was blank.

Terms like SOAP , WSDL frightened me . I barely knew ASP.NET & C# . I had some hope of doing this with JAVA, but the company we consumed the web service from misguided me saying using JAVA here will make things complicated(crap:SOAP,WSDL have nothing to do with the platform).
We decided to stick with ASP.NET with C# .I achieved one major thing,i was able to communicate properly with the  server and get the flight search results .But a week had passed by already and i was convinced i need someone to guide me on this . So i got a project manager (luckily he had a similar project before) . He went through my work and decided that we need atleast 3-4 more guys to work along with me to finish this project in time.So i got a team to work with now
Things were way easier now . Working as a team is fun . I got used to a lot of industrial practices(naming conventions, project architecture, estimation) . I mainly worked on the backend( the transactions for booking the flight/bus ticket),also did some javascript & database procedures & a couple of pages & some CSS…Software Work is highly taxing, the tight deadline added to the workload and moreover i was learning all these technologies on the fly . Things were really hectic . Usually leve to office 11 and came back around 9:30 ..Stayed in a nice comfy PG but no proper food..
Everything was going as planned .A month has passed by.Made a few friends in the place i worked,Cool people .  I enjoyed the work i did,it was so satisfying to do something real time ,something which a lot of other people will use.And that drive kept me going .And yes we finished the task successfully by the 27th of june and i came back to my house, hoping for 15 days of no programming!!And yeah i had my first income from softwares!

PHASE 2:

I reached home and barely did I rest for a day when an offer came up where i could work in an EMBEDDED R&D FIRM here in coimbatore . I went though their site and they were really interesting . I didnt wanna miss this opportunity, so i went to work again . First day i saw linux (latest kernel) running on a 2*2cm ARM microcontroller and was amazed. It was really cool.I decided that i should do my best here .Basically they needed a custom built linux from scratch for their chip.So i started to learn abt the linux bootprocess, boot process of an embedded system, the filesystem and … Built a linux from scratch for the pc. Then did a cross linux . And now almost completed a 14mb filesystem for them ….

My first project was a very high level project and the second one was very close to the machine …Both were exciting and enjoyable .. But i realised that the real skill of a computer engineer is his low level programming skills . I could say i was a SOFTWARE ENGINEER in my first project but a COMPUTER ENGINEER in the second. All be it ,I still feel there is better market for a software engineer. So i will continue to horne my high level programming skills and start working on my OS skills!!!!After all,i am a computer engineering graduate

Soooo my summer 2009 was really productive, very unique to my previous summers ,very taxing.Had no time for family, friends. Whatever IT WAS FUN….

It was during my first semester that I really wanted to know how the stock market works. With the scholarship VIT gave me,I started trading.Investsments didnt really attract me,but trading did.The very fact that you can almost double your money in a couple of days just pulled me.I still remember my first day at the markets

,Sensex was around 21000.I never knew the risks involved in trading,It took me quite sometime to understand how Futures and Options worked.I somehow had a feeling that it was a smooth walk, but not for long i had that feeling.Indian Markets crashed, global recession followed, bad foreign cues etc etc..Only bad news followed and now the index is at 10900.MeanWhile i lost 40% of my money. The journey has been amazing, following the business tactics of the giants, understanding the economic scenario, following the business headlines, knowing about technical & fundamental analysis, meeting fellow traders, the anxiety, the joy of profit, the disappointment of losses and the knowledge trading has given me is just amazing.College doesnt teach you about money. So a lot of we youngsters miss out on it .Money can do a lot of good, apart from the luxury and comfort it gives you.I feel that every college goer should follow the stock market and trade atleast virtually.I continue to trade for the joy of it and believe that someday soon my investsments will earn more than what i do.

My Business Ideas

Call me And Blast me

One of my Crazy Ideas.Get a lot of these. Here goes one.All of us get angry. And we end up showing it on someone we shouldn’t and that someone shows it on someone else and it goes on. So I just thought……

One of my Crazy Ideas.Get a lot of these. Here goes one.All of us get angry. And we end up showing it on someone we shouldn’t and that someone shows it on someone else and it goes on. So I just thought……

we could have a phone number where you can call and vent out your anger. You will get appropriate responses from the number and we make sure that all the anger is out of you and you are back to peace. We charge some nominal amount for this. Monthly subscriptions also may be. What say?

Quick Trade

I have had this is in mind for a year now. Very sad I couldn’t do anything about this till now. Basically we develop a trading platform for mobilephones. Equity trades, futures and options. A list trader platform. With live streaming charts. India is becoming 3g enabled. So bandwidth shouldnt be a problem.anyone who does this the first and the best is in for jackpot I swear. I got loads of featurable ideas for this and I very badly want to make this happen. What say?

I have come some distance with programming languages in a short span of time..From 11 standard to the end of my third semester. All i knew was C,C++ ,that too without GUI && event programming. Then i decided to got to do things on my own…..

Started off with JAVA …Thats the time i got a domain, got introduced to drupal. Then i felt i needed to learn PHP to do wat i wanted to do with drupal..Cant leave Mobile Phone programming aside too, infact thats the reason i chose JAVA,so i decided to learn J2ME too..Accidently i met Python and loved its elegance(not many can push python aside). So I decided to learnt that too.Started off with J2ME,completed it.Then went to PHP learn enough to do what i wanted to do with drupal..Then went to Python and finished it too.

Python is pure elegance..Java is power & professional..This is the time i saw JYTHON that combines the power of the JAVA API with the scripting elegance of python && finally gives out a JAR file .WOW!!.If jython is properly maintained , i am sure its gonna rock the programming world. When i have enough knowledge i would surely contribute to the JYTHON project..So Did a bit of JYTHON too.

Now here i am .Learnt PHP,j2Me,python in like a month and a half…Now am looking forward to putting them into use and developing something really useful..May be like a mash of the three.A web based(PHP) app for the mobile phone(python or j2me) or something like that…Fingers crossed and Hopes High

Expectations

Life is soooo beautiful sometimes! But only sometimes. Why not always? Hmmm. There are many answers for this question. But for me the only answer is……Life is soooo beautiful sometimes! But only sometimes. Why not always? Hmmm. There are many answers for this question. But for me the only answer is……EXPECTATIONS.All of us expect something ,either out of ourselves ,or out of life, or worst from people around us.
When we expect something,we take the risk of feeling disappointed.I expected a centum in my 12th standard math,I expected my friends to behave as I expected them to,I expected my iPhone to do so many things,I expected to earn enough money to pay my college pays from the stock market,I expected to gain enough knowledge before 3rd year to build a good product and I expected my College to give me that education,I expected my parents to be understanding always.I have expected so many things in life most of them end up in disappointment. So why even expect anything in life and just live life everyday as it is.Imagine a life without any Expectations.Even more imagine a life where there is no expectations on you.You know just get up in the morning.Just do your work for your food, eat ,enjoy the nature, enjoy life.
There is another life too.Expect a lot from you.Do whatever it takes to get that expectation done.Work Hard .If you expect a luxurios life, then earn enough money ,buy whatever your heart wants, enjoy it.So called AMBITIOUS PEOPLE.
Finally what you want in life is happiness. You have two choices to expect or not to.Either keep it simple or make it a little more tough. But remember finally what you want is happiness. So if you can keep it simple then why not.
I love to keep it simple.Doesnt mean i am not expecting anything out of me.I do expect a lot of things from me.I have something in me called WANT.Both of them are closely related.Expectation is hoping somethin.Want is a desire.I want power.I want Money to be powerful.I want respect. And for all this i need to expect somethin out of me.But i make sure that i dont expect anythin from others or let others expect much out of me.I just want to live life my way , not how others expect me to.
I just wished that i never had any WANTS and i could keep my life very simple. But then i realised eveything late. There are expectations already. So i am looking forward to fulfilling them and satisfying my wants and then lead that simple life that leads to happiness.Because its tough to change the system now!!!
